Truth

While a 20% down payment may help you avoid private mortgage insurance (PMI), you don't need to put down that much to buy a home. Many loan programs, including FHA Loans and VA Loans, (CHFA) Connecticut Housing Finance Authority, allow you to put down as little as 3.5%* or even 0% down, respectively. There are also down payment assistance programs available for those who qualify.
